Canoe City news and views from the little island in the Penobscot River

This seems to be the time of year when I have the most time to envision posting to such a medium, not that I really have time.

Snow last night, 5 or 6 inches, heavy and wet weighed down the birches and the shrubs nearly collapsing the cedars were it not for the rugged tie-down straps I have around them. I have a snowblower and it has been dependable for the last 15 or more years. Under-powered for this type of snow though I still can get the removal done by being clever…and determined. I use either WD-40 or Pam spray in the shute and the augers to make them slippery and help heavy snow pass through with less drag. It will still take more than 5 hours for the three driveways I do when the snow is like this.  I anticipate that the drive-belt will break soon. The small size engine works hard to move that weight and I can hear the belt squeal when I am too demanding of it’s ability. I think I have a spare. More snow Saturday night.
